Scenario
Date: 9th August 1980
Coalition forces have seized key locations outside of Kabul Province. Russian artillery is placing fire on these fixed positions whilst a general retreat of the Russian forces to the west of the city is in action. A CIA operative working with the Mujahideen in one of the province towns may have found a doorway to Kabul for the coalition. He has given Intel to the Coalition command that President Taraki will be driving through the province with a stop at the government offices to pick up vital documents concerning his government. Can the Coalition capitalize on this opportunity, that could bring the end to communist regime and finally oust the Russians from the country? Or will the Russian forces extract the President and continue to quash the Mujahideen?
Objectives
All sides need to capture and control as many Command Posts as possible.
Russian Objectives
- Patrol local area to ensure the Mujahideen are not providing support to coalition forces.
Russian forces must keep a secure perimeter ensuring that the Mujahideen cannot provide support to the Coalition. They may stop and search any cilvilian, and if found to be Mujahideen and carrying weapons they will be arrested and taken to the Russian HQ. Two work permits have been granted to the civilians, to control the amount of work that they can do on an communications building. Russian forces must ensure there are no more than 2 Mujahideen working at any one time. (The Mujahideen have control of these two permits) - Set up charges and blow all oil pipe lines.
They must destroy all oil pipe lines before pulling out of the area to stop the Coalition forces capturing them. - Move all barrels of oil from the storage facility to their extraction point.
The Russians have been capitalizing on the oil pipe lines that run through the area and have built up a large stock pile of oil. They must move this oil to a safe location to stop it falling in to the hands of the Coalition. - Hunt down and either capture or kill the CIA operative.
Russian forces are aware that a CIA operative has been operating in the area and helping the Mujahideen to prepare a forward command post for the coalition. They must capture or kill him before he can pass vital Intel onto the coalition commanders. - Complete artillery fire missions.
Under orders from command they are putting their artillery to heavy use laying down fire support for their comrades in the desert. They must complete all fire missions, and defend the artillery from the Coalition. - Protect and hold the Government offices.
The Russians must protect and hold the government offices until extraction. - Protect President Taraki and extract him along with the vital documents.
They must protect the president whilst he is in the area and then extract him for a helicopter pickup along with his Intel.
Coalition Objectives
- Deploy to the outskirts of the province and set up a Command Post.
Coalition troops must deploy to the outskirts of Kabul province, set up their Command Post and secure as much of the surrounding area as possible. - Capture and secure all oil pipe lines.
They must capture and secure all oil pipe lines before the Russians destroy them. - Stop the Russians from moving the oil barrels.
Coalition forces must stop the movement of all oil barrels and capture them for their own use. - Meet up with Mujahideen and set up forward Command Post.
Coalition must infiltrate the village and meet up with the Mujahideen and the CIA operative to secure their forward Command Post and to begin to set up their communications equipment. - Destroy the Russian Artillery.
They must assault and capture the Russian artillery before the Coalition engineers can rig their charges and blow it. - Capture and hold the Government offices.
The government offices are off key strategic importance to the Russian forces, the Coalition must capture and hold these. - Hunt down and capture or kill President Taraki.
They must kill or capture the president to overturn the government and oust the Russian forces.
Mujahideen Objectives
- Retrieve and setup communications equipment for the Coalition forward Command Post.
The Mujahideen must retrieve all communications equipment from the province and move it to the designated Command Post before setting up the communications rig ready for the Coalition’s forward Command Post. The Mujahideen are safe to move around the area un-hindered by the Russians if they are unarmed. Russian forces may stop and search and if the Mujahideen are found carrying any weapons they will either be captured or killed. - Meet up and work with the Coalition.
They must meet up and assist the Coalition in securing their forward Command Post; once the Coalition and Mujahideen have joined they will work under the command of the Coalition HQ and assist in all Coalition objectives.
